Is Your Baby Keeping You Up at Night? Tips for Sleep Training Your Infant
Infant sleep training is the process of teaching your baby to fall asleep and stay asleep for longer periods of time. As a new parent, it can be a daunting task to figure out how to help your baby sleep through the night, but with the right approach, you can make the process much easier for both you and your little one.
There are several methods of infant sleep training, and the best one for you will depend on your baby's personality, your parenting style, and your goals for sleep training.
Method # 1 of sleep training is the "gradual withdrawal" method, also known as the "camping out" method. This method involves staying with your baby as they fall asleep, gradually moving further away from the crib each night until you are no longer in the room. This method is more gradual and can be less stressful for parents, but it may take longer for your baby to learn to fall asleep on their own.
Method # 2 is the "bedtime fading" method, in which you adjust your baby's bedtime gradually, pushing it back by 15 minutes each night until they are going to bed at the desired time. This method can be useful to help align your baby's internal clock with the rest of the family.
Method # 3 is the "gentle mum talking" method uses recordings of your voice to settle your baby to sleep. It is helpful to record your voice in our safe baby sleep device Lulo, which does not emit radio frequency waves, and then have that recording played in a loop for your baby. This method is perfect for those parents who do not want to leave their baby crying and just want to be present to comfort them, but still want all the benefits of sleep training.
Regardless of the method you choose, there are a few key things to keep in mind when sleep training your baby:
• Keep a consistent bedtime routine: This can help signal to your baby that it's time for bed.
• Avoid over-stimulation before bed: Avoid activities that might be too stimulating for your baby before bed, such as playtime or watching television.
• Make sure your baby is comfortable: Make sure your baby's sleeping environment is comfortable and safe, with a suitable mattress, blanket and room temperature.
• Be flexible: All babies are different, and what works for one baby may not work for another. Be willing to adjust your approach as needed.
It's important to remember that sleep training can be a difficult and sometimes emotional process for parents. Trusting your instincts and being consistent in your approach will be the key to success. With time and patience, your baby will learn to fall asleep on their own and you'll both be able to get the rest you need. Learn how to get your baby to sleep though the night.
